AO "Association for Waste Recovery", will implement during the period 01.09.2020 - 31.08.2021, the project "Management of solid waste through the active involvement of the community" in 6 localities from the Străseni district (Străseni municipality, Scoreni village, Lozova commune, Vorniceni village, Negrești village and Sireți village). The project is part of the Local Grants Program within the "Ability of citizens in the Republic of Moldova" project, financed by the European Union and implemented by GIZ Moldova.
By launching this project, AVD aims to directly contribute to increasing community awareness and participation in order to reduce the impact of waste on the environment and health. Obviously, it is not an easy task, rather a challenge, but through coordinated and well-planned actions, we want to succeed together with the target beneficiary groups of the project (residents of the targeted communities, teachers, librarians, students, LPAs, NGOs ures, sanitation operators, economic agents, etc.) gradually reducing the amount of waste reaching the landfill, increasing the share of selectively collected recyclable waste and of course increasing the number of citizens, who will contribute to improving the quality of sanitation services by honoring the obligation to pay for these services.
In order to achieve the proposed goal, AVD has identified a series of strategic objectives:
- Evaluation of citizens' perception of the role and benefits of selective waste collection and how much the citizen's relationship with public institutions matters in ensuring this process;
- Increasing the level of knowledge regarding priorities in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development among students;
- Stimulating the civic and participatory spirit of citizens in solving the problem of waste within the community;
- Organizing and ensuring citizens' access to information and data about the benefits of organizing selective waste collection.
During the implementation of this project, AVD, together with the team of experts that will be involved, will carry out several activities aimed directly at strengthening the community's capacities in the correct management of generated waste:
- Organization of a project launch conference;
- Elaboration of a Study on the perception and attitude of the inhabitants of the Străseni district;
- Informative-educational seminars for the training of trainers (teaching staff, librarians, NGOs);
- Campaigns for the selective collection of waste with the involvement of students and trainers (OFFICIAL-REGULATIONS-OF-THE-AWARENESS-AND-WASTE-COLLECTION-CAMPAIGN);
- Practical workshops on the rules and benefits of household composting;
- Procurement of 180 wooden boxes for composting biodegradable waste (30 per household in each locality);
- Procurement of metal nets for the selective collection of plastic, a total of 22 nets (on average 2-5 per locality);
- Workshops on compliance with the "Polluter Pays" and "Extended Producer Responsibility" principles;
- Creation of a web page dedicated to the project, which will include various useful information and can be integrated on the web page of the beneficiary town halls.
